Road of Remembrance

In 1930 the Ohio State Legislature designated a portion of Route 193 from Lake Erie to 422 in Youngstown as a memorial roadway in honor of those soldiers who gave their last full measure of devotion during the Great War, World War I.

In 1931, the Mahoning Chapter NSDAR brought rocks from the battlefields of Lexington and Concord to be placed around a memorial rock marking the Road of Remembrance.

The Forest Glen Estates Historic District Marker and the Lexington and Concord rocks are located in Boardman Township.

Historic Preservation

The Mahoning Chapter supports the local Sons of the American Revolution tombstone replacement project.

Our chapter is preserving the memory and spirit of those Patriots who supported the cause of liberty during the American Revolution. We are locating and cleaning their gravesites and headstones throughout Mahoning County.

This we do with remembrance, reverence and respect.

Project Patriot

For more than seven years, members and friends of our Mahoning Chapter have been knitting and crocheting “Handmade with Love” scarves for deployed service men and women.

We send our scarves to Operation Gratitude, an organization that ships care packages, including handmade scarves, to service members. So far our chapter has sent a total of 587 scarves! We know the scarves are truly treasured by those who receive them.

Knitting for those serving our country is a long-time tradition. We call our group The Wool Brigade, which is a reference to the many people who knitted for the troops during World War I

Day of Service

Each October, for National Day of Service, our members assemble snack and cookie trays to deliver to local first responders to thank them for their service and hard work keeping our community safe!  Mahoning Chapter members provided a meal for first responders to a train derailment in a nearby community.
